What homeowners ask before we start.
Thirty-four years of walkthroughs adds up to a short list of questions that come up on almost every call. Here are the answers we give — the same ones we'd give on your front porch.
01 · Process & consultation
How a Superior project actually goes — from the first phone call through the walkthrough, written estimate, install, and the work that lasts after.
What services do you specialize in?
We hold to five services: siding, roofing, windows, doors, and masonry. Each is something we install ourselves with our own crews — no subcontracted pieces, no handoffs between trades. The whole exterior is one job, one standard.
How does the project design process work?
It starts with a walkthrough on your property. We look at what's there, what it needs, and what it doesn't. Materials, colors, options — we walk you through the trade-offs honestly. Most homeowners narrow down to two or three good options during the consultation and pick the right one before we leave.
Do you service all of New Jersey?
Our regular footprint is six Northern NJ counties: Morris, Bergen, Essex, Passaic, Somerset, and Union. For the right project we'll travel further — call us if you're outside that radius and we'll tell you straight whether we're the right fit.
How soon should I start planning for my project?
Sooner is better. Once you know you want the work done, the planning phase determines material availability, lead times on specific products, and where your job lands in our schedule. We typically book 4–8 weeks out for full-exterior projects depending on season.
How do I get started with an exterior renovation?
Call us at (973) 625-8544, or fill out the form on this site. We'll schedule a free on-site walkthrough — usually within a week. You'll get a written, itemized estimate before we leave your driveway.
What makes you different from other exterior contractors?
Three things. We're family-owned and owner-operated — Lou started Superior in 1992, his son Mike runs it now. We do the detail work the cheap quotes won't even discuss — flashing, underlayment, drip caps. And we answer the phone after installation. The warranty isn't paperwork; it's continuity.
How do you tailor projects to specific homeowner needs?
Every home is different. We don't sell a product catalog — we look at your house's exposure, the existing wall assembly, your priorities for the project (curb appeal, energy, longevity), and your budget. Then we recommend the materials and scope that fit. The estimate reflects your project, not a template.
02 · Materials, durability & maintenance
What we install, why it lasts, and what you can expect to maintain after the work is done.
Do I need a large home for siding, roofing, or masonry work?
No. Craftsmanship doesn't scale with square footage — a small ranch gets the same flashing detail and the same crew as a five-bedroom colonial. Some of our best projects have been on smaller homes where every inch of trim shows.
What materials and brands do you install?
Siding: premium composite, premium vinyl, and cedar. Roofing: architectural asphalt shingle and standing-seam metal accents. Windows: energy-rated fiberglass and vinyl. Doors: fiberglass entries, storm doors, multi-slide patio systems. Masonry: cultured stone and brick veneer. Specific manufacturer choices depend on your project — we walk you through options on the consultation.
Are your siding, roofing, and masonry easy to maintain?
Yes. The materials we install are designed to be low-maintenance. Siding gets an annual rinse with a garden hose. Architectural shingles need almost nothing. Masonry is essentially set-and-forget. No painting, no sealing, no seasonal upkeep beyond keeping gutters clean.
Are your materials durable in New Jersey's climate?
That's the test we design for. Northern NJ goes from 95° humid summers to single-digit winters with freeze-thaw cycles, ice dams, and the occasional nor'easter. Every material we install is rated for the Northeast climate zone, and the installation details — flashing, ice-and-water shield, ridge venting — are tuned specifically for our weather.
How long do your materials last?
Premium composite siding: 25–30 years with the manufacturer warranty, longer if installed correctly. Architectural shingles: 30–50 years depending on grade. Vinyl windows: 20–30 years. Cultured stone: indefinite — it's still mortared in place 80 years after install. We select materials we expect to outlive the warranty.
Can I customize the scope of my project?
Yes — fully. You can phase the work (siding now, windows next year), mix and match materials by elevation (composite on the front, vinyl on the sides if budget matters), and adjust scope after the walkthrough if priorities shift. We update the written estimate when scope changes — no surprises.
03 · Investment & financing
What exterior renovation costs in Northern NJ, how we price, and the financing options available through our partner.
What factors affect the price of my project?
Three big ones. Material choice — composite costs more than vinyl, real stone costs more than cultured, architectural shingles cost more than three-tab. Scope — how much area, how many windows, how many trades. And condition of the underlying assembly — rotted sheathing, undersized headers, or failed flashing add labor. We itemize all three in the written estimate so you can see exactly what drives the number.
Is financing available?
Yes. We offer financing through Wells Fargo for qualified homeowners — convenient monthly payment options for home-improvement projects. You can apply directly or wait until the walkthrough, and we'll talk through the current terms and options on-site.
How much does an exterior renovation cost in New Jersey?
It depends entirely on scope. A full siding and trim project typically runs $14,000–$80,000 on a single-family home, with most projects landing in the middle. A roof replacement runs $12,000–$30,000 depending on size and material. Windows are typically $600–$1,400 installed per opening. The walkthrough is free — we'll leave a written estimate that reflects your specific home and project.
Why choose your materials over cheaper alternatives?
Because the cheap quote isn't actually cheaper — it just defers the cost. Vinyl that warps, shingles that delaminate at year 8, windows that leak at year 5, siding installed without proper flashing. We stand behind the materials we install because we install them in ways that let the manufacturer warranty hold up. The lifetime cost of a Superior project is lower than the lifetime cost of two of the cheap ones.
04 · Project logistics
How long a typical project takes, what consultations include, and what to expect during install.
How long does a typical project take?
Most full-exterior siding projects run 7–14 days. Roof replacements are typically 2–4 days. Window packages range from one day for a few openings to a full week for whole-house installs. Masonry varies most with scope. We give you a written timeline before we start and update you each day during the work.
Do you offer free consultations or design services?
Yes — every walkthrough is free and on-site. We come out, look at your house, review materials and options with you, and leave a written estimate before we depart. If you want 3D rendering for color and material visualization on larger projects, we can usually arrange that at no cost before any work is ordered.
05 · Value & after-install support
What the work does for your home long-term, and what happens after the crew packs up.
Does exterior renovation increase home value?
Yes — and the data is unambiguous. New siding has one of the highest cost-recoupment ratios of any home improvement (Remodeling Magazine's annual Cost vs. Value report consistently ranks it in the top 5). A new roof and updated windows boost both appraisal value and street appeal. Beyond the numbers, the home becomes more energy-efficient and easier to maintain — value the appraisal doesn't capture but the homeowner feels every year.
Do you offer maintenance services after the project is complete?
The materials we install are essentially maintenance-free, so there's rarely scheduled work needed. But we answer the phone — if you have a question, a concern, or something that doesn't look right years after install, call us. We've serviced installs going back to the 1990s. That's the actual warranty.
